Last year Council installed shade sails at 13 parks across the Inner West to make sure playgrounds can be enjoyed year-round, especially in the warmer weather. Now we’re continuing the program with a proposal to install nine shade sails in parks across three Council wards.

This financial year we are spending $275,000 to install shade sails in parks across three Council wards. The shade sails will provide shade over playgrounds to promote a healthier lifestyle and create a safe play environment. The proposed sites are:

Ashfield Ward - Djarrawunang

  • Carrington Street Playground, Summer Hill
  • John Paton Reserve, Short Street, Summer Hill

Stanmore Ward – Damun

  • Brighton Street Park, Petersham
  • Matt Hogan Reserve, Camden Street, Newtown
  • Salmon Playground, Station Street, Newtown

Marrickville Ward - Midjuburi

  • Louisa Lawson Reserve, Roach Road, Marrickville
  • Ness Park, Hollands Ave, Marrickville
  • Tempe Reserve, Holbeach Avenue, Tempe
  • Wicks Park, Victoria Road, Marrickville

Have your say

You are invited to have your say on the proposed shade sails. View the locations of the shade sails and complete the feedback form to tell us your thoughts on the proposal. You can comment on as many parks as you like.

Final day for comment is the 15 November 2019.

What happens next?

The project team will use your feedback and other information to decide which shade sails should go ahead and to develop the designs. Everyone who provides feedback will be updated via email and on the project page at yoursay.innerwest.nsw.gov.au.
