Paringa Reserve is a long open space that wraps around Sommerville Point with seating and fantastic views of the Harbour.

Key proposals

Council has prepared a draft Plan of Management (POM) and draft Master Plan that will guide how we maintain and improve the reserve for the next 10 years.

Key proposals in the draft plans include:

  • Revitalise the abandoned restaurant and terrace
  • Provide a new container-style kiosk
  • New forecourt paving to improve safe access to the park, wharf and kiosk
  • Fully accessible toilet
  • A fully accessible path from the wharf along the foreshore
  • Clear and consistent signage
  • Natural heritage information
  • Outdoor gym equipment
  • Additional tree planting to improve shade
  • Establish a cohesive landscape and furniture strategy to allow for smaller gatherings, picnics, relaxation, and peaceful recreation
  • Additional park seating towards the bay and curved seating under trees
  • A water bubbler
  • Repairs to existing fencing
  • Investigate a new path/stairs to Lockhardt Avenue that will connect the walkway to Lockhart/Phoebe Street

What happens next?

The project team will review and consider community feedback before finalising the plans. The PoM and Master Plan will then go to the elected Council for adoption. The Park will be progressively upgraded over the next 10 years. Feedback on the kiosk concept designs will be reviewed before proceeding to the detailed design.
