Project history

How did we get here?

Between 22 July and 10 August 2024, we consulted the local community about proposed expansion of Residential Parking Scheme in the surrounds of Mackey Park.

Local Traffic Committee recommendations 18 November 2024

In November 2024 the Local Traffic Committee discussed a report including community feedback and Council Officer recommendations on this proposal which were:

1. That the proposed three-month trial of timed permit parking restrictions on Thornley, Cary, Renwick, Ruby and Junction Streets, and Warren Road not proceed due to the lack of community response and support.

2. That the proposed ‘2P 3pm-9pm Mon-Fri; 4P 8am-6pm Sat-Sun’ restrictions on the western side of Richardson Crescent south of Carrington Road be installed as shown in Attachment 2.

3. That the current on-going enforcement of unattended and unauthorised vehicles under the Public Spaces (Unattended Property) Act 2021 by Council’s Parking Officers to improve parking conditions for households that are affected by current parking behaviours on the local streets be noted.

In December 2024 Council considered Local Traffic Committee recommendations and made the following decision.

That Council receive and adopt the recommendations of the Local Traffic Committee meeting held on 18 November 2024, subject to the following amendments:

a)Item 16 - Mackey Park and Carrington Road Survey Area, Marrickville: Request for extension of M2 Residential Parking Scheme: that Council write to affected residents explaining the actions taken to date and inviting residents to attend a town hall meeting to be organised in February 2025 and held in South Marrickville; and that council investigate and consult the Marrickville Red Devils on establishing a kiss and ride zone at a location near Mackey Park on Saturdays...

Read the meeting minute

In April 2025, Council held a public meeting about parking near Mackey Park in South Marrickville.

In late November 2025 we consulted residents of Thornley Street and Cary Street on revised parking changes to manage parking in their streets as well as Carrington Road and Richardson Crescent.

Next steps

What happens next?

If there is enough support, the proposal and all feedback will be reviewed by the Local Transport Forum. Everyone who provides feedback will be informed when the Forum considers the proposal.

Resident letter

What is happening now?

We want your feedback on proposed changes to parking in your local streets.

What is being proposed?

We are proposing to make the following parking changes:

Introduce a Resident Parking Scheme (RPS) ‘2P 8am-6pm Mon-Fri Permit Holders Excepted Area M2’ on the southern side of Renwick Street between numbers 66 and 104 (20 spaces).

Warren Road

Introduce a RPS ‘2P 8am-6pm Mon-Fri Permit Holders Excepted Area M2’ on the northern side of Warren Road between numbers 105 to 149 (27 spaces).

Ruby Street

Introduce a RPS ‘2P 8am-6pm Mon-Fri Permit Holders Excepted Area M2’ on the southern side of Ruby Street between numbers 16 and 52 (21 spaces).

Junction Street

Introduce a RPS ‘2P 8am-6pm Mon-Fri Permit Holders Excepted Area M2’ on the northern side of Junction Street between numbers 1 and side boundary of number 9 Ruby Street (15 spaces excluding the existing mobility parking space).

We also want to add time-limited parking in these areas:

Carrington Road

Introduce time limited parking ‘2P 3pm–9pm Mon–Fri; 6P 8am–6pm Sat–Sun’ on the eastern side of Carrington Road (between Richardson Crescent and Premier Street).

Richardson Crescent

The proposals are shown below.
