Update June 2020
In mid 2016 Council was advised that the NSW Roads and Maritime Service (RMS) were compulsorily leasing approximately one third of Camdenville Park for the construction of WestConnex.
As part of the WestConnex project the area originally planned in the Camdenville Park Master Plan for a BMX pump track was taken over and utilised as a construction compound. A small section of the park was permanently acquired to straighten Bedwin Road.
WestConnex project work in this area will continue until the end of 2020. Council has also been advised that further works are required on the Park by Transgrid for the Potts Hill to Alexandria transmission cable project.
Council is working with Transgrid to finalise timelines and minimise disruptions during this project. Works are expected to take approximately 12-18 months to complete.
We are very much committed to implementing the master plan for Camdenville Park, including the much anticipated BMX track.
Once state significant infrastructure works are completed future park improvements including the installation of the BMX Track will be progressed including a design review by Council.
Transport for NSW in partnership with Inner West Council are currently planning and delivering a new bridge over the railway at Bedwin Rd, which also forms part of the Westconnex (WCX) M5-St Peters Interchange Active Transport Works, as a condition of the development consent for their project.
We have been successful in gaining funding for the project, through the NSW Government’s St Peters/Alexandria Urban Amenity Improvement Program.
Cycle and pedestrian paths form part of the Westconnex project to improve connectivity and safety and contribute to the active transport network. Council is delivering new and improved pedestrian/cycle paths as part of the M5-St Peters Interchange Active Transport Works funded by Westconnex and Transport for NSW. These include:
- The Princes Hwy, Canal Rd & Mary St Intersection cycleway
- The Mary St to Sydenham Station cycleway
- The Mary St to St Peters Station cycleway includes the construction of the bridge at Bedwin Rd over the railway

At a meeting on 15 September, Council resolved to decline to accept any tenders for constructing the BMX pump track due to the uncertainty around the WestConnex Development Authority (WDA) proposals for the park. WDA has indicated that it is prepared to construct the BMX pump track at its cost on completion of its work.Read more in the business paper and minutes of this meeting.

During July we asked you to have your say about play in the park
Designs have progressed to include a new play space in the middle of the park and a smaller space at the corner of Council and May Streets.
1. The central play space will provide a wide range of fun for all kids. Its location will
- combine younger and older children’s play in one place
- allow views of the BMX pump track and the rest of the park
- create a safe playing space away from the road
2. The new corner space will provide a spot for informal play and relaxation
3. The old playground will be removed.
We asked you for your ideas in a survey which closed on Friday 31 July 2015.
