November 2021 update

24 November 2021

The implementation of the Master Plan is continuing with concept designs developed for new walking and cycling links to the train and light rail stations. These include:

  • Wardell Road between Ewart Street and Wilga Avenue
  • Approaches from Ewart Street to Wardell Road
  • Approach from Bedford Crescent to Wardell Road

A details of what is happening

  • New in road trees, raingarden, garden bed and footpath treatments;
  • Upgraded footpath pavement to blend in with the pedestrian oriented village

Many of the upgrades were developed to improve pedestrian and cyclist safety and efficiency throughout the precinct, and facilitate access to and from the station. The proposed improvements for the Dulwich Hill Station Precinct include the following:

  • Raised thresholds on Wardell Road to establish 40km'h zone from Ewart Street to Wilga Avenue to enhance pedestrian safety;
  • Underground of overhead electrical on Wardell Road from Ewart Street to Wilga Avenue;
  • Multifunction (Smart) pole on Wardell Road with enhanced lighting to increase pedestrian safety;

The above upgrades will improve safety and efficiency of pedestrian and cycling movements. The raised entry thresholds will signify to vehicles the change in environment and start of a pedestrian-oriented village, and will reduce vehicle travel speeds. The enhanced footpath space can be utilised for street furniture for improved amenity. Additional rain gardens, garden beds and street tree planting will create a more eco-friendly environment. Undergrounding power cable will provide a modern look, whereas multifunction poles with enhanced lighting will add value and enhance pedestrian and bicycle safety.

  • The public domain works will refurbish footpath and road pavements, providing consistent and high quality materials to enhance the public space and revitalise zones for people.
