Consider representing your Inner West Council community on a special interest working group.
Council is seeking expressions of interest from Inner West Council residents who would be interested in volunteering on a newly established Community working group for Balmain Town Hall and Civic Precinct in 2022-2023.
Council is looking for individuals who have:
- Residence in or own/operate a business in the Balmain/Baludarri Ward
- A vision for the future of the Civic Precinct
- Commitment to diversity and inclusivity within the community
- Previous experience serving on a similar committee
- High levels of personal integrity and ethics
- Strong communication skills
- Knowledge of local government
- Sufficient time available to devote to responsibilities as a working group member, and
- Independence and freedom from contractual arrangements with Council.

We are here to be of service to the community and make the Inner West a great place to be. Working group members are expected to demonstrate a commitment to Council’s values in performing their role.
Community working group membership provides the opportunity for interested community members to contribute their unique perspective and expertise with a view to enhancing Council’s service to the community.
Working group members will serve as a visioning and advisory group to identify opportunities for further consideration in the development of a Civic Precinct for Balmain.
The working group will consist of:
- Inner West Mayor - Chair
- Ward Councillors
- NSW State Parliamentary Representative
- Six community representatives
- Relevant Inner West Council staff
Council will also invite individuals or organisations to meetings based on need or advice requiring specific subject matter expertise.
The purpose of this working group is to:
Progress the shared vision established through recent consultation. The community working group would consider the interests of both local business and residents and put forward consensus views for consideration of key stakeholders.
The working group will meet over three occasions. Proposed dates are as follows:
- Week commencing 28 November 2022
- Week commencing 6 February 2023
- Week commending 6 March 2023
Applicants will need to demonstrate an ability to meet the selection criteria listed below:
Essential criteria:
- Resident or business owner/operator of Balmain/Baludarri Ward
- Ability to identify opportunities for the creation of a lively Civic Precinct
- Ability to work in a team environment to support others and develop and maintain strong working relationships (with other sub-committee members, Council officials, and other stakeholders)
- Possess good communication and interpersonal skills.
Desirable criteria:
- An appreciation of the value of community services for the people of Balmain
- Experience as a member on local or state-wide committees
- Have strong community links.
This working group work is voluntary and unpaid.
