What happens next?

Next steps

After the public exhibition, a report including your feedback will be presented to Council for consideration. Everyone who provided feedback will be informed when the report will be considered by Council.

At its meeting on Tuesday 18 November 2025, Council endorsed the revised Weed Management Policy for public exhibition.

What is this policy about?

Council's Weed Management Policy sets out how council manages weeds across streetscapes, parks and other public spaces, prioritising ecological sustainability, safety and visual amenity by using mechanical methods first, limiting herbicide use, protecting sensitive areas, and ensuring all weed control follows strict environmental, health and safety standards.

The purpose of this policy is to contribute to public spaces that are high-quality, welcoming and enjoyable places and to outline the methodologies to manage weeds within the Inner West.

This policy applies to land which is under the ownership, care, control and/ or management of Council.

How does the Pesticides Use Notification Plan relates to the Weed Management Policy?

The Weed Management Policy sets the overall approach Council uses to control weeds — focusing on safety, sustainability, and prioritising non‑chemical methods. When herbicides are used, the Policy requires Council to follow the Pesticide Use Notification Plan, which explains how and when the community will be notified about spraying activities. The Notification Plan is a supporting document that ensures any herbicide use under the Policy is transparent, safe and communicated clearly to the public.

What has changed?

All updates are simply administrative things like clearer wording and updated references while the day‑to‑day approach to weed control, including prioritising safer, sustainable methods and protecting sensitive areas, stays exactly the same.
