If approved, the site could be developed into a creative industry precinct with residences, community facilities and car parking. What’s in the proposal?
Indicative plans propose 180 new residential apartments in buildings up to eight storeys, commercial space, a neighbourhood centre, public area enhancements and basement car parking for 340 vehicles with entry via Edith Street and exit via Mary Street. Proposed maximum heights range from 9.5m to 26m across parts of the site.
Is this a development application?
No. A planning proposal request is step one in a five-step process to rezone land through changes to Marrickville’s Local Environmental Plan (LEP). If the proposal is supported by Council and the NSW Department of Planning, the third step is further community consultation where detailed plans are publicly exhibited. The fourth and fifth steps are assessment by the relevant planning authority, and decision by the Minister.
Residents will be advised of and have the opportunity to make submissions into any subsequent development application received by Council.
Give us your feedback on this proposal by using the online submission form below by Sunday 28 February 2016.
What happens next?
Council will receive a report of the feedback from residents at its meeting on 15 March. Members of the public may attend or apply to speak at this meeting. More information this can be found here.
