Hercules Street, Ashfield
Event Management Plan
Council has received $500, 000 under the Vibrant Streets Package – Permit/Plug/Play Pilot Program, to identify event-ready streets and deliver long-term cost reductions by streamlining approval processes for temporary road closures. The Program is a part of the NSW Government’s Vibrant Streets Package, a $19.7 million investment that will help transform our streets into more vibrant public spaces, with creative and cultural activations in the short term and the trial of place management strategies to support sustainable activation in the long term.
The Program also supports permanent street upgrades like on-site power and safety barriers to make it faster, easier, and cheaper for councils and event organisers to hold pop-up events such as markets and street parties on local streets in urban centres. These events can be both Council and community managed events.
The Program builds on the success of existing Transport programs that support activating our streets and transport hub precincts. Process improvements, enabling place infrastructure and street activations under the Program will be delivered by November 2025.
Council proposes to approve regular and recurring events at the following locations:
for up to 6 times per calendar year, between 2025 and 2029. The events will be permitted only on a Sunday and will involve temporary closure of the street to vehicles between 3:30am and 11:30pm on the day of the planned event.
To support event organisers to activate these sites, Council proposes to also develop a global Activity Application form (s68), traffic management plan and explore upgrades to power and enabling infrastructure like removable bollards that can help reduce the costs for event organisers.
Council has proposed event types and site layouts suitable for these sites. The event management plans for each site are available in the document library below.
