Parking Meter Changes


Background

On March 13 2018 Council voted to turn off the main street parking meters after 7:00pm in Leichhardt, Rozelle and Balmain to help breathe new life into our dining and cultural precincts.

What is happening now?

Council is considering:

  • Introducing 30 minutes free parking to meters in side streets
  • Turning side-street meters off at night after 7.00pm

Meters are located in a number of side streets off Norton Street Leichhardt, Darling Street Balmain, Darling Street and Balmain Road Rozelle.

What happens next?

All feedback will be reported to a Council meeting where a decision will be made whether to turn off meters after 7:00pm and/or introduce 30 minutes free parking to meters in side streets.

    At a meeting on 5 February 2019 Council considered staff report and made a number of decisions. These include converting existing 15 minutes free parking zones to 30 minutes free parking zones, undertake an economic study regarding consumer behaviours on high streets and to provide information on section 94 levies.

    Council considered a report at a meeting on 11 September 2018, and decided that:

    1. It will defer the matter to allow Council officers to investigate limiting 30 minute free parking and turning off parking meters at 7pm to side street spaces and abutting business

    2. Further information be provided on the breakdown of submissions form residents of relevant side streets
