What is this project about?

Council is proposing temporary closures of Norton Street between Macauley Street and Marlborough Street on up to six Sundays each year to support community events, cultural activations and local celebrations as part of the Permit/Plug/Play Program.

The proposal aims to make it easier to host events that bring people together, celebrate local culture and support Norton Street businesses.

How did we get here?

At its meeting on 25 August 2026 Council resolved to endorse the draft concept plans and the proposal for Permit, Plug and Play in Leichhardt to be placed on public exhibition for 28 days to seek community feedback.

What is Permit, Plug and Play

The Permit, Plug and Play Program has been developed to enable local business to run events in preapproved locations up to six times a year. The program has a simplified event application process with preapproved traffic management plans which allow business owners to submit the application.

The Permit, Plug and Play Program is currently available at Hercules Street, Ashfield, Calvert Street Carpark, Marrickville and Lackey Street, Summer Hill.
