Project updates
Council’s current Resident Parking Scheme (RPS) Policy requires support from at least 50% of all properties within the affected street section before a scheme can be considered. Each property is entitled to one vote.
A summary of the consultation results is shown below.
| North Street, Leichhardt support Levels for ‘2P 8am-10pm Permit Holders Excepted Area L1’ Proposal | |||||
| Submissions | Total properties | Number of supports | Response rate | Support rate | |
| Total | 35 | 63 | 18 | 56% | 29% |
The support rate represents the number of properties that supported the proposal as a percentage of all eligible properties. The response rate represents the number of valid responses received as a percentage of all eligible properties.
While a number of residents supported the proposal, the consultation did not achieve the minimum 50% support rate required under Council’s current policy. As a result, Council will not be proceeding with the proposed parking changes at this time.
During the consultation, some residents advised that they did not support the proposal because of the current resident parking permit eligibility and participation requirements. Council is currently developing a new Parking Strategy and updated Parking Policy, which are expected to be considered for adoption in late 2026.
The proposed policy changes may provide an opportunity to review resident parking permit eligibility arrangements for North Street. If the revised policy is adopted, Council may consider undertaking a new consultation with residents in the future.

Resident letter
We want your feedback on a proposed changes to parking on North Street, Leichhardt between Allen Street and William Street, Leichhardt.
Why are we proposing these changes?
Council has received requests from residents to look at parking in North Street.
We carried out parking surveys in this area. The results showed that parking is often very full, especially during busy commuter times.
What are we proposing?
Council is proposing to introduce a Resident Parking Scheme (RPS) on the western side of North Street, between Allen Street and William Street. This would mean installing signs that say:
- “2P 8am–10pm, Permit Holders Excepted, Area L1.”
As part of this proposal, Council must also install ‘No Stopping’ zones at all intersections, if they are not already there, as required by NSW Road Rules.
You can see the proposed changes below.
