Inner West Council is preparing a Flood Study for the Marrickville South catchment area to better understand how flooding currently occurs, and how it may change in the future. The area covers southern Dulwich Hill and south‑west Marrickville.

The study will:

  • Use the latest flood modelling methods and standards
  • Assess how floodwater flows across the area under different rainfall scenarios
  • Identify flood risks to people, homes, infrastructure, and services

The findings will help:

  • Emergency services plan and respond to floods
  • Council set appropriate planning and development controls
  • Improve the resilience of infrastructure to future flooding
  • Guide flood risk management in line with NSW Government requirements

We invite residents, landowners and local businesses to share any experiences or observations of flooding in the area. Your local knowledge will help Council better understand where flooding occurs and what impacts it has on the community.

We are particularly interested in information about the February 2022 and April 2024 storm events including:

  • Where flooding occurred
  • How deep it was and how long it lasted
  • Any impacts (property inundation, road closures, access issues)
  • Any photos (if available)
