Inner West Council is committed to ensuring that places of heritage significance in our local government area have statutory protection. This includes our many pubs.

In 2018 Council decided to investigate the heritage status of pubs in the Inner West and recommend additional heritage listings.

We asked the community for interesting facts, stories and anecdotes to help us understand just what it is that makes Inner West pubs so special.

The Inner West is the home of some of Sydney’s most iconic pubs and we’re asking the people who know them best to tell us why they love their favourite pub.

Whether it’s the atmosphere, the food, the music, the regulars or the occasional drop in by the famous or infamous, we want to know as much as possible about the Inner West’s thriving pub culture.

In 2018 Council decided to investigate the heritage status of pubs in the Inner West and recommend additional heritage listings.

In 2022 Council investigated historic pubs within the LGA and identified 27 that had potential for heritage listing. The heritage pubs program builds on the existing 26 heritage listed pubs that are celebrated and protected as part of Inner West's cultural and social heritage.
