Background
Inner West Council has successfully fought to receive $2.5million from the Sydney Motorway Corporation to upgrade Council owned community facilities in Haberfield.
Council owns two major community facilities in the heart of Haberfield which the money could be used for:
The Haberfield Centre including Library
Built in 1912 as the School of Arts, it was the first public building in Haberfield. The centre is a much loved facility providing a variety of programs, services, resources and activity rooms to the community, as well as a local library.
Mervyn Fletcher Hall
Originally the Baby Health Centre and Committee Room built in 1952; the centre was renamed in 1954 after Dr W Mervyn Fletcher to commemorate his service to the local community. The Hall is a meeting place for celebrations, exercise, music, dance, meetings and many other activities.
