At its meeting on 3 September 2024 Council considered the Local Traffic Committee recommendations and made the following decision:

That Council receive the minutes and adopt the recommendations of the Local Traffic Committee meetings held on 17 June 2024 and 15 July 2024 with the following amendments:

b. That Council include the proposed resident parking scheme in Glassop Street between Punch and White Streets as part of the approved residential parking scheme;

Between 4 June and 5 July this year we sought community feedback on the proposal to introduce Residential Parking Scheme in the vicinity of Dawn Frazer Baths

Key points on the engagement methods and results:

  • The Your Say Inner West project page was viewed 221 times
  • 35 respondents completed the online feedback form

Outcomes:

  • The Southern side of Fitzroy Avenue - Response rate 81% Support rate 57%

This proposal is proceeding to the Local Traffic Committee for consideration.

  • Glassop Street between Punch and White Street - Response rate 25% Support rate 20%
  • The Wester side of White Street between Tilba Ave and Glassop Street - Response rate 20% Support rate 10%

Due to insufficient support these proposals will not go ahead.

Council’s Resident Parking Scheme Policy requires a minimum of 50% support from properties in the subject section for consideration of a Resident Parking Scheme (RPS), with each property entitled to a single vote. Please note that the ‘Support rate’ is the number of votes on the subject section supporting the RPS expressed as a percentage of the total number of properties for the section and the ‘Response rate’ is the number of valid votes compared to the number of properties for the section expressed as a percentage.


Project details

Background


Several residents have expressed concerns to council about the long-term non-resident parking along the vicinity of the Dawn Fraser Baths.

In response Council has conducted parking occupancy surveys in the vicinity of Dawn Fraser Baths. The results indicated high parking occupancy levels, (above 85%) within several streets during the day.


What is being proposed?


It is proposed to introduce a Resident Parking Scheme (RPS) within the vicinity of Dawn Fraser Baths, Balmain as outlined below:

  • Installation of ‘2P 8am-10pm Permit Holders Excepted Area B1’ in the below sections:
    • The Southern side of Fitzroy Avenue
    • Glassop Street between Punch and White Street
    • The Wester side of White Street between Tilba Ave and Glassop Street.
  • As part of the proposal, 10m ‘No Stopping’ zones must also be installed at all intersections (as per NSW Road Rules) if the restriction is not already existing.

What happens next?


A report, including feedback from the community, will be considered by Council’s Local Traffic Committee. The Committee’s recommendations will then be considered by Council where a final decision will be made. Everyone who provides feedback will be notified when the report is considered by the Committee.
