  • How is the stated ongoing costs to council arrived at?

The costs were identified by an expert business analyst. Further information on the costs can be found in the Business Case Report  which can be viewed here: http://www.yoursayinnerwest.com.au/26429/documents/55231

  • Why option 1 is more than twice the ongoing cost to council of option 2 when option 2 provides new plant and equipment and many other new features?

Option 1 does not include a gymnasium. Option 2 and 3 include a gymnasium. The gymnasium provides a significant finanancial income to Council.

  • Can the car parks also be covered in PV panels?

Busker asked almost 2 years ago

The roof of the new buildings are to be designed and constructed so the whole roof area can be used to install PV panels. The Bastable Street car park could be covered by PV panels however the cost to construct the frame to support the panels may make the cost of installation cost prohibitive. However, the consultants will be asked to desing the car park to allow the isntalattion in the future.

  • Is the water polo pool heated? Can it be used for aqua classes?

Yes, the water polo pool will be heated and it can be used for deep water aqua classes.

  • What does new amenities cover?

New amenities will include: individual change rooms, male and female change rooms, on deck change rooms, and fully accessible facilities.

  • Is the smaller outdoor pool going to exist?

No, however in Option 2 there is a provision for a new splash pad with shade sails.

  • Has the council considered the impact that this will have on the flow of traffic along Elizabeth Street. At present it gets very busy on weekends. What strategies will be put in place?

Yes, traffic and parking studies have been undertaken and assessed for developmental consent (DA) for Option 1. New DA, when plans are finalised,  will require new traffic and parking study. All three options provide for increase parking.

  • I'm unsure how the boom gate works - Does that only happen when water polo games are on and is it a lengthy process to operate the boom gate?

During water polo activities,  a boom gate will separate the water polo  activities and lap swimming. The boom gate is operated automatically and takes about 5 minutes to put up or down. A similar boom gate is being used by  Annette Kellerman Aquatic Centre at Enmore Park.

  • Water quality is also very important, couldn't the money be better spent on simpler facilities but more advanced systems, again to last into future?

Council recognises water quality as important. The refurbished aquatic centre will use ultra-fine filtration system to ensure excellent water quality.

  • Option 3 Why is there no children's pool?

The space used by the current children's pool will be used for the new amenities including family change rooms.

  • How have the innovative solutions promoting water and energy efficiency been incorporated into costing?

Allowances have been made for measures including: rainwater tanks, ultra-fine filtration which reduces water use and high energy efficiency through mechanical, lighting and power systems. All new roof will support PV solar panels.

  • OPTION 3 - What is the green rectangle between 'H' and 'K'? At present this is a grass area, what will this area become?

In options 1 and 3 the green space next to the water polo pool is an open green space for future construction of an additional pool.

  • OPTION 1 - is the only design that retains the grandstand. Without the grandstand does this mean that school swim comps will not be held at Ashfield due to the lack of seating?

School Carnivals will continue to be held at the pool. Options 2 and 3 will include open space area instead of the grandstand and temporary seating will be provided during school carnivals.

  • OPTION 2 - has the 1 pool for swimming and water polo; does this mean that when water polo area is being used the 50 metres pool is reduced to 30 metres?

During water polo activities,  a boom gate will separate the water polo  activities and lap swimming. The boom gate will leave a 25 metres pool with 5 swimming lanes that will run across the pool.
