Help make Marrickville a Water Sensitive Community!

Do you live, work or own property in the Western Channel Subcatchment in Marrickville?

The Western Channel Subcatchment Management Plan 2014 for your neighbourhood is now complete. The plan was adopted by Council  on 15 July, 2014. If you live or work or just own property in the area, this plan is for you.

What did we do?

Western Channel Subcatchment Management Plan

At vision sessions throughout February, people in the Western Channel Subcatchment community and Council worked together to develop the subcatchment's vision for 2060.

  1. We then worked on setting goals at the Planning Forum on the evenings of 5 and 13 March, 2014.
  2. Council put together the first draft action plan and sent it to all our subcatchment contacts.
  3. We updated the draft plan after receiving feedback from our contacts, and further engagement with the Western Channel Subcatchment Working Group in April, and a Council staff workshop on 22 May, 2014.

The goals and actions developed by Council and the Western Channel  Subcatchment Working Group were incorporated into the Draft Western Channel Subcatchment Management Plan that was on public exhibition until 20 June 2014. Submissions were accepted until 27 June 2014.

Submissions from the public exhibition were considered and included for the final plan where possible. The plan also includes options for stormwater treatment works in the catchment using water sensitive urban design, such as rain gardens and shows how water sensitive urban design can be integrated into other capital works programs in the subcatchment, such as footpaths, roads and street trees.
