Council is proposing to improve safety for pedestrians and motorists on Wardell Road where it intersects with:

  • Charlecot Street
  • Wilga Avenue, and
  • Porter Avenue

The proposals are based on recommendations from the Marrickville West Local Area Traffic Management Strategy which was endorsed by Council in 2015 following a period of community engagement.

The proposed work includes:

  • Widening the existing pedestrian refuge islands;
  • Constructing landscaped traffic islands to reduce the distance for pedestrians crossing the street;
  • Installing kerb ramps;
  • Upgrading the footpaths to improve accessibility;
  • Extending the existing ‘No Stopping’ zones to improve motorists’ visibility of pedestrians and cyclists at the crossing; and
  • Painting associated line markings.

Parking changes

The proposed work would remove some on-street parking on Wardell Road:

  • four spaces near Charlecot Avenue
  • three spaces near Wilga Avenue
  • two spaces near Porter Avenue

All vehicle access to adjoining properties will remain.
