Heatwaves are prolonged periods of excessive heat. In Australia they cause the greatest loss of life associated with any natural hazard.

We are doing research on heatwaves and their impacts in Dulwich Hill. Here is what we already know about hot weather in the area:

  • the thermal map shows the areas in Dulwich Hill that are hotter and cooler on an average summer day; and

  • the social vulnerability map shows areas where there are higher numbers of people who are more likely to have their health affected by extreme heat including children and older people.
