Why are we calling for this tender?

In 2011/2012 Council involved the community in a study of the area's recreation opportunities and facilities, including current and future needs.

Key recommendations of the Recreation Needs Research 2012 and Facilities Needs Research 2013 are that Council should:

  • increase the capacity of sportsgrounds to meet both growing demand and accommodate a variety of recreation activities
  • provide medium size community meeting space to meet demand.

Tempe Reserve sportsgrounds in particular were identified as having poor drainage and dangerous surfaces by sports users. They currently run at about 50% capacity.

The tender process will enable Council to investigate the ability and willingness of user groups to contribute towards the upgrades. Tenderers must ensure existing users of the sports fields are accommodated as a minimum requirement for any proposed upgrade. Tenderers are required to note the current days and times of use in order to demonstrate that their proposal caters for existing use.
