Project updates

Project details

Council is reviewing how we manage parking in public places. On-street parking and Council managed carparks currently operate under different policies from the former Leichhardt, Marrickville and Ashfield Councils. The draft Public Domain Parking Policy proposes one consistent approach across all the Inner West. The draft policy aims to better manage excessive demand and balance competing needs through parking schemes and other parking controls. The new Policy has been developed by reviewing the former Council Policies and researching Policies of other Councils to develop a fair, balanced and comprehensive Policy that will address future needs and demands.

What's in the policy?

The Policy draft covers several areas of parking management including: permits for residential and commercial areas, timed parking restrictions in commercial areas, exceptions (such as Mobility Parking Scheme Permits), paid parking, authorised vehicle zones, taxi zones, and more.

Proposed parking permit changes

The most inconsistent policy area is parking permits. We've summarised the differences and proposed a single control in the draft.
