Proposed naming of a lane in Newtown

Consultation has concluded

Update 28 April 2015

Following community consultation, Council has approved the name Gentle Lane for the unnamed Lane.

Council considered Gentle Lane to be an historically appropriate name because local brick maker Josiah Gentle was the developer of a majority of the properties adjoining this laneway in the late 19C and early 20C. Read more about Josiah Gentle here.

The decision was made at Council’s Infrastructure, Planning and Environmental Services Committee meeting on 7 April 2015.

A sign with the street name ‘Gentle lane’ and a ‘No Through Road’ sign will be placed at a suitable location soon.

Update 20 March 2015

Council has received a number of submissions from residents, all comments have been noted and will be included in a report for Council’s consideration.
