Project details

Council officers have prepared a planning proposal seeking amendment of Marrickville Local Environmental Plan 2011 (MLEP 2011) to list the former Church of Christ at 389 Illawarra Road, Marrickville (‘the site’) as an item of environmental heritage. The planning proposal is supported by an expert heritage assessment which has established that the church meets the NSW heritage assessment criteria for local heritage significance and recommends the property be heritage listed.

At its meeting on 23 June 2020, Council resolved to endorse the planning proposal and submit it to the Department of Planning, Industry & Environment for Gateway determination. A Gateway determination, allowing public exhibition of the planning proposal to proceed, was issued on 28 July 2020.

The heritage listing of the property will ensure that the heritage significance of the property is conserved.

What is the purpose of this planning proposal?

To list 389 Illawarra Road, Marrickville as an item of local heritage significance under Marrickville Local Environmental Plan 2011 (MLEP 2011).
