Planning proposal for signage on bus and taxi rank shelters


Council is proposing to amend the Marrickville Local Environmental Plan 2011 to facilitate advertising on bus and taxi rank shelters. The amendment will allow signage that meets specified standards to proceed without requiring approval.

Under the proposal the criteria that the signage would need to meet is:

  • Must be on Council owned or controlled land.
  • Must not extend beyond the perimeter of the shelter.
  • Only 1 advertising panel per shelter that may comprise an advertisement on 2 sides.
  • Must not contain flashing or neon signage.
  • Must be positioned to not adversely impact on pedestrian movements.
  • Must not obstruct the line of sight of vehicular traffic or pedestrian traffic.

Exhibition material

  • Extract and minutes from the Infrastructure, Planning and Environmental Services Committee meeting where the proposal was considered

    Council considered a report about this proposal, which included submissions from the community, at a meeting on 15 March 2016. Council unanimously resolved to forward the draft amendment to MLEP 2011 to the Department of Planning & Environment seeking final approval and gazettal.
