Why is this happening now?
In 2018 the State Government amended the Crown Lands Act. As a result, we need to update and adopt Plans of Management for all Crown Lands public open space. In November 2018, Council adopted an Inner West Open Space Areas Plan of Management Priorities list.
Recent upgrades
- Repairs to pathways
- Installation of new seating
- Historical refurbishments to park entrances and in ground street names
- Installation of new shade sail over the playground
Renaming of the Petersham Oval Grandstand
At its meeting on 11 February 2020 the Council resolved to rename the grandstand to 'The Hughes family-Dudley Seddon Memorial Grandstand'. For more information read the meeting minutes.
What can you influence?
We have looked after this amazing open space. It's in a very good condition the plan will focus on improving the existing much loved fabric of the park.
Some of the planned works may include:
- Upgrade the heritage elements of the park including the grandstand, scoreboard and significant plantings
- Investigate current and future requirements of the sporting ground including spectator seating
- Improve seating, gathering spaces and picnic facilities

Come along to a drop in session in Petersham Park next to the playground. Speak to the project team and share your ideas and comments.

What happens next?
Your feedback and input from other stakeholders will be used along with research and expert advice in the development of the draft Plan of Management and Master Plan. The plans will go on Public Exhibition in late 2020.

The feedback will be used along with other information to develop the Plan of Management and Master Plan. These documents will outline how we will care and manage the park over the next 10 years. You will have a further opportunity to provide feedback on the draft documents when they are placed on public exhibition in early 2021.
