Draft Marrickville Public Toilet Strategy - your say


The Public Toilet Strategy aims to provide residents and visitors to the Marrickville Local Government Area (LGA) access to a public toilet within 400m of their position during daylight hours. The strategy aims to deliver best practice in public toilet design, hygiene, safety and maintenance.

The strategy is divided into these sections:

  • A benchmarking study (to establish best practice);
  • An existing facilities review (for both quality and location);
  • Establishment of a collaborative design process for the implementation of the strategy;
  • An implementation plan.*

The draft strategy is on public exhibition from 27/7/15 - 23/8/15

  • Council adopts the Draft Marrickville Toilet Strategy

    On the 17 November Council resolved to adopt the draft strategy with the following amendments:

    • a variety of materials are considered for public toilets;
    • public comfort and acceptance is given significant consideration, along with cost, ease
      of maintenance and vandal resistance, when considering materials for public toilets; and
    • in the event that the new King Street toilet proposed in partnership with City of Sydney does
      not go ahead in the coming 12 months, the development of a new toilet at Camperdown
      Memorial Park will be brought forward to the 2016-7 financial year.

  • Next steps for the draft Marrickville Toilet Strategy

    All submissions received throught the public exhibition period will be collated into a report to the elected Council. The Councillors will consider the report at a Council meeting and will take the community’s wishes into account where possible when deciding whether to adopt the draft strategy without changes or with changes. Everyone who provides their email address as part of the submission process will be contacted with the date of that Council meeting.
