Background

Council engaged consultants, Cardno, to conduct the Leichhardt Flood Study which was completed in 2014. The study determined where flood water will run, how the existing drainage system will cope and which properties are affected.

Using this information, Council has developed a flood risk management study and plan which identifies options for identifying options for reducing flood risk including:

  • better emergency planning;
  • controls on development; and
  • infrastructure work to change flood behaviour.

What's happening now?

Council is seeking feedback from the community on the draft plan to manage flooding in the former Leichhardt local government area.

  • See a map showing the catchment boundaries
  • Read the draft plan which includes all the options for managing floods
  • View the draft study which informs the plan
  • Look at a flood mapping tool to see the flood extent, hazard, depth and velocity for the 1 in 100 year flood event

See the structural options for each catchment and find out more details about the findings of the flood study in the Document Library.
