Making parking fairer in Petersham, Stanmore and the Parramatta Road Corridor/Camperdown precincts


Background

In November 2015, Council asked the community for feedback on parking in the following precincts:

  • Parramatta Road Corridor/Camperdown
  • Stanmore, and
  • Petersham

What is happening now?

1. Stanmore parking strategy has been adopted by Council

The feedback received through the community engagement process, along with a study of parking occupancy data, was used to create a series of final recommendations for improving parking in the Stanmore precinct. This was considered and adopted by Council at a meeting on 26 April 2017.

The strategy includes changes to parking in nine streets and lanes in this precinct. The changes include:

  • introducing parking permit areas to a number of streets
  • providing time restricted parking zones for visitors to local businesses
  • enabling access to off-street parking by introducing parking restrictions in Harrow Lane

Parking changes will occur in these streets and lanes:

Aubrey Street*

Chalder Street

Harrow Lane

Cambridge Street

Douglas Street*

Railway Avenue*

Cavendish Street*

Fotheringham Street*

Temple Street*

* indicates parking permit areas will be introduced/ extended in this street.

In parking permit areas residents and business owners can apply for a free parking permit and are exempted from timed parking. To find out more about parking permits read these FAQs.

2. Petersham parking strategy has been adopted by Council

The feedback received through the community engagement process, along with a study of parking occupancy data, was used to create a series of final recommendations for improving parking in Petersham. This was considered and adopted by Council at a meeting on 25 October 2016.

The strategy includes changes to parking in 15 streets in Petersham. The changes include introducing parking permit areas to a number of streets and providing some time restricted parking zones.

3. Parramatta Road Corridor/ Camperdown has been adopted by Council

The feedback received through the community engagement process, along with a study of parking occupancy data, was used to create a series of final recommendations for improving parking in the Parramatta Road Corridor/ Camperdown area. This was considered and adopted by Council at a meeting on 23 August 2016.

The strategy includes changes to parking in 13 streets within this precinct. The changes include introducing parking permit areas to a number of streets, extending restrictions in some streets, and providing some time restricted parking zones.

What happens next?

The Parramatta Road Corridor/ Camperdown parking changes have been implemented and the Petersham parking changes will be implemented by the end of June 2017. Residents affected by the changes will receive a letter with information about the changes and parking permits, before sign posting is installed.

    - information gathered from schools, businesses, places of worship, sporting groups and others

    - submissions from car share organisations

    - parking occupancy and length of stay data

    to create a draft Parking Strategy for each precinct. These will placed on public exhibition prior to adoption by Council. We'll let you know when the draft Strategies are on exhibition.
