Advisory committees and working groups are an important part of Council’s Community Engagement Framework. Advisory committees and working groups provide an important platform for community members to contribute to building a stronger local community.

The primary purpose of both the advisory committees and working groups is to:


Apply to be a member

Due to the postponement of the 2020 local government elections, the Local Advisory Group term has been extended to June 2022. During this time groups may recruit new members when necessary. If the group you would like to join is not recruiting at the moment, sign up to our newsletter and we'll let you know when the next application process opens.

Council is calling for expression of interest from the community for membership of the following groups:

Membership criteria

Members must live, work, study or volunteer in the Inner West local government area. Applicants will be assessed against selection criteria for each advisory committee or working group. If there are more applicants than places, Council will aim for diversity by matching membership as closely as possible to Council's community profile in terms of gender, age, languages spoken at home and suburb of residents. Membership is limited to 15 per group.

What happens next?

Applications will be assessed by a selection panel of Council's staff. All applicants will be notified of the outcome.
