Background
In response to complaints from residents about parking in streets near the WestConnex construction site in Haberfield, Council conducted a parking occupancy study in the area in August 2017 which showed high occupancy rates.
What is happening now?
To make parking fairer for residents, Council is considering introducing new resident parking permit areas H1 and H2 in the following streets: Allum Street, Alt Street, Ash Lane, Bland Street, Cove Street, Denman Avenue, Northcote Street, Walker Avenue, Wolseley Street and Yasmar Avenue. In accordance with Inner West Council (Ashfield) Resident Parking Scheme Policy, the introduction of a resident parking permit area must be supported by residents/occupants in the affected streets.
Proposed new parking permit areas H1 and H2
The proposed new parking permit areas would have the area codes H1 and H2 on the street signs. This would introduce 2P parking restrictions from 8am – 6pm Monday to Friday and 8am – 1pm Saturdays on specific streets on one side only.
Your vehicle would need to display a valid H1 or H2 permit to park in that area beyond the time limit shown on the sign. A parking permit does not give any special rights outside of these signposted H1 or H2 code areas, i.e. there is no exemption from ‘No Parking’ and ‘No Stopping’ areas, parking close to corners, double parking, or any other parking or traffic rules.

If the proposal succeeds, who can apply for a resident parking permit?
All residential properties which have front or side access onto either side of the streets included in the H1 and H2 areas could apply for a resident parking permit. Ability to apply does not automatically mean a permit/permits will be granted. Permit eligibility is affected by the number of cars registered at a property and whether it has off street parking

Your feedback is important and will help Council make an informed decision about traffic management in your area. You are invited to complete a survey using the online form below to indicate your preference for the introduction of '2P 8am-6pm Mon-Fri, 8-1pm' permit areas H1 and H2. The last day to complete the survey is Monday 14 May 2018.
What happens next?
The proposal will be considered by the Local Traffic Committee. The recommendations from this Committee will be referred to Council for approval. All those who participated in the survey will be informed of the outcomes and will be advised when the matter will be considered by the Committee. It is anticipated that if the proposal succeeds the Resident Permit Parking Areas will be in place by October 2018. They would then be reviewed in five years or at the completion of the WestConnex project whichever comes first.
