Draft Inclusion Action Plan for People with a Disability 2016-2020


The Inclusion Action Plan for People with a Disability outlines Council's commitment to respecting the rights and improving opportunities for people with a disability of all ages, to participate fully in community life.

The plan has been developed through listening to the needs and ideas of people with a disability, family members of people with a disability, and agencies who provide services to people with a disability and/or their families.

What's in the plan?

There are six outcome areas in the plan which align with Councils existing strategies and vision.This covers:

  • Education, recreation and social inclusion
  • Cultural inclusion
  • Economic inclusion
  • Inclusive planning (infrastructure and environment)
  • Civic inclusion, engagement and information, and
  • Access and inclusion is embedded in our systems and processes

The plan is underpinned by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with a Disability. It addresses a broad range of issues including: getting around independently, accessing relevant information and opportunities to participate in community activities and programs - in ways that are accessible to a person regardless of their disability.

What happens next?

A report of all the submissions received will be considered at a forthcoming meeting. This will be taken into account before a decision is made about whether to adopt the plan without changes, with changes or not to adopt it. Everyone who provides their email address as part of the submission process will be contacted with the date of the meeting.
