Council is proposing to construct a raised pedestrian crossing on The Boulevarde to provide safe access between Lewisham Public and Christian Brothers High Schools.

This proposal addresses concerns raised by the schools about the safety of school children crossing the street during peak drop off and pick up hours.

The proposed works include:

  • Installing a raised pedestrian crossing
  • Providing four landscaped kerb blister islands
  • Removing the existing speed hump to the north of the proposed pedestrian crossing
  • Painting double lines on the centre of the road between Toothill Street and Eltham Street to stop dangerous u-turns within close vicinity to the schools
  • Combining the two existing drop off/pick up zones on the Christian Brothers High School side of the street and moving the zone south, closer to the proposed pedestrian crossing
  • Moving the existing drop off/pick up zone on the Lewisham Public School side of the street south, towards the proposed pedestrian crossing
  • Installing associated signage, replacing any damaged signs and repairing faded road markings.

This proposal would result in the loss of eight on-street parking spaces. The number of spaces within the School drop-off and pick-up zones will remain the same.

Please refer to the design plan, which can be viewed here along with the report and minutes of the Council Pedestrian, Cyclist & Traffic advisory committee meeting.
