Salisbury Road and Australia Street, Camperdown - Improving pedestrian and traffic safety

Council wrote to residents in March 2015 about a proposal to install signalised pedestrian crossings in Australia Street at the Salisbury Road intersection. This proposal aims to improve pedestrian safety and manage traffic movement better. While the proposal was approved by Council in June 2015, the design plan now include changes to on-street parking so we are seeking the community’s feedback once more.

The proposed works include:

  • Installing two new pedestrian crossings across Australia Street
  • Installing new kerb ramps in Australia Street at the new crossings and reconstructing kerb ramps in Salisbury Road in some locations
  • Installing associated signage and replacing any damaged signs and faded lines

This proposal would result in the loss of four on-street parking spaces and changes to the existing No Stopping/No Parking zones. Existing traffic movements and turning restrictions at this intersection will remain the same. Please view a copy of the plan here

Have your say

Your feedback is important and will help Council make an informed decision about this project.

Submissions close at 5pm on Friday 18 September 2015.

What happens next?

All comments will be included in a report to the Pedestrian, Cyclist and Traffic Calming Advisory Committee and the recommendations from this meeting will then be referred to Council’s Infrastructure, Planning and Environmental Services Committee for consideration.

The works are planned for this financial year, depending on the outcome of the consultation process, final approvals and funding allocations. Residents will be notified of a commencement date for any proposed works.
