Increasing on street parking and improving safety in Newington Road, Marrickville

This engagement has now closed. Thank you to everyone who made a submission.

Council is proposing to construct a concrete kerb blister island and a painted kerb blister island in Newington Road at the intersection of Perry Street. This proposal will create one additional on street parking space in Newington Road. The safety of pedestrians and traffic will also be improved through better sight lines for motorists entering Newington Road from Perry Street.

Following community consultation in May, a report including residents' comments was considered by Council’s Pedestrian, Cyclist and Traffic Calming Advisory Committee at a meeting on 11 June 2015. The Committee’s recommendation was for Council not to proceed with the proposal because it reduced motorists’ sight lines and obstructed vehicle access to the driveway of No. 75 Newington Road.

This recommendation was then considered by Council at its Infrastructure, Planning and Environmental Services Committee meeting on 7 July 2015. At this meeting, Council resolved that an amended proposal was required which allows vehicle access to No. 75 Newington Road.

The Amended Proposal

Following Council’s resolution, an amended proposal has been developed which includes:

  • removing the ‘No Stopping’ signs, and

  • constructing a landscaped kerb blister which minimises obstruction to vehicles entering No. 75 Newington Road.
