Addison Road Community Centre Rain Garden

The Addison Road Community Centre was identified as a priority stormwater treatment site in the Eastern Channel North Subcatchment Management Plan 2013.

A rain garden on the site would treat stormwater and help to make the Cooks River cleaner, whilst meeting the objectives of Marrickville Council's Strategy for a Water Sensitive Community, and the Community Strategic Plan's vision of swimming in the river.

Working closely with the Centre management and stakeholders, Council identified three preliminary design options based on preliminary site investigations. In 2015, community members were invited to give feedback on the options and provide any other suggestions about stormwater management at the Centre.

The feedback received from the community was used in the development of the final design of the rain garden. Construction is expected to occur in the 2018/19 financial year, depending on funding allocations.

Council is calling for comments and feedback on the design for the Addison Road Centre Rain Garden.

The objectives of the design phase will be to:

    • design a system to treat around 50 million litres of stormwater from a 9 ha catchment and reduce nuisance flooding

    • create a design that will contribute to a healthy environment through best practice water, tree, and biodiversity management

    • work with the community so they have input into their local area

    • design a space for environmental education at the centre
